The Southern Missouri Professional Firefighters Association represents over 300 professional firefighters in Springfield and the metro area, including Branson that are on the front lines everyday protecting our communities is honored to announce our endorsement of Ken McClure for Mayor of Springfield. Helping elect leaders for our communities is very important to our members. Public Safety is a top priority for any community and our organization. To maintain public safety, we have to have strong leaders in place to ensure all areas of Public Safety are addressed from Police, Fire, Emergency Medical Services, and the 911 system. Further, we also need good infrastructure throughout the city to help improve Public Safety by having well-lit streets, safe roads, and safe intersections. To help fund all these public safety needs we need someone who supports economic growth for our community to ensure that revenues are brought into the community to help support the cost in having a safe place to raise our families.
We are proud to stand behind a candidate that brings significant experience in the public sector. Ken McClure has had experience in local, state, and federal government for several years. Ken's background consists of serving as the chief of staff for a Missouri governor, chairman of the Missouri Public Service Commission, an administrator with City utilities, and most recently Vice President at Missouri State University. Ken brings the skills necessary to help lead the city and ensure Public Safety is a top priority, further addressing all areas of the city?s needs.
Springfield has faced many challenges over the years, which most recently has been the pension system for Springfield firefighters and police officers. Ken recognizes the importance of ensuring that the police/fire pension system stays solvent for its employees and also maintain the cost that's manageable for the city. Ken's believes having a solvent pension system will retain quality employees to better serve the citizens of Springfield. Ken currently serves on the board and as the liaison between city Council and the pension board.
Leadership is important to any organization along with the ability to see both sides of an issue in order to make informed decisions. Ken brings the leadership to our community that encourages discussion, even when there are differences. Ken will demonstrate as Mayor the leadership Springfield needs to ensure a safe and prosperous community.
